Russian occupants abducted in Melitopol Yaroslav Popenko, volunteer, PhD in history (specialization – history of Ukrainian People’s Republic) and professor of Melitopol State Pedagogical University, as reported by the Center for Journalist Investigations.
According to his colleagues, Russian occupants searched his house and withdrew his books about history of Ukraine. Since the beginning of Russian invasion Popenko was active participant of volunteer movement. After occupation of Melitopol, he started working in humanitarian foundation “Support of Melitopol” and supplied drugs. He openly expressed his patriotic opinions.
As the CJI already reported, recently volunteer Illja Yenin was abducted from his house. He helped residents of occupied territories with food products. His whereabouts are unknown. Entrepreneur Yevhen Pokoptsev was also abducted. His charitable foundation supported vulnerable Melitopol residents.
Journalists of IPC-Kherson created interactive map of Russian abductions of Ukrainian civilians – public officials, deputies of all levels, entrepreneurs, public activists and journalists on temporary occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast.
