Russian troops destroyed unique cultural heritage objects in Kherson region: Adziogol, Khablovo and Grand Canyon lighthouses.
It was reported by Igor Yosypenko, member of Kherson Oblast Council, head of charitable foundation «Ukraine will win!». He published information at his Facebook account, in accordance with the Center for Journalist Investigations.
«Russian troops hit Adziogol Lighthouse, the highest in Ukraine, by three rockets. Grand Canyon Lighthouse located in Stanislav village, and Rear Khablovo Lighthouse were completely ruined by Russians. Occupants continue destroying our prominent architectural and natural monuments but they will never kill our nation!» as Yosypenko wrote.
Earlier information about Russian strike at Adziogol Lighthouse was published by Serhii Khlan. Local residents told him that two rockets hit the basis of lighthouse and the third – its construction.
Adziogol or Stanislav-Adziogol Lighthouse is located at Dnipro Firth, near Rybalche village of Chulakivka territorial community of Skadovsk district. It was built in 1911. Its project was developed by renowned engineer and scholar Volodymyr Shukhov. It has vertical lattice hyperboloid structure of steel bars. Its height is 64 meters. It is the highest lighthouse in Ukraine and the 18th highest in the world. It is also considered to be the highest lighthouse with traditional structure.
Rear Khablovo Lighthouse was built over 150 years ago. It is located on the border between Kherson and Mykolaiv oblast in steppe, several hundred meters away from the sea shore. Together with front and middle Khablovo lighthouses, it forms the line of lighthouses helping ships to navigate safely in Dnipro-Bug Estuary. It was built in 1952.
Kherson Grand Canyon (or «Kherson Mountains») received its name because it reminds famous US natural reserve. It is located on the territory of Stanislav natural reserve, at Dnipro-Bug Estuary.
In accordance with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Russian occupants destroyed 5 cultural heritage objects in Kherson oblast, as of July 22, 2022. They damaged ancient kurgans near Davydiv Brod and along roads in Beryslav district and hit the building of regional office of the State Security Service. Overall, the Russian Federation committed 434 crimes against cultural heritage in Ukraine.
